On May 4,During the 98th anniversary of the university, Professor Jeff Dahn, the world-famous lithium battery expert, chief scientist of Tesla, the world-famous electric vehicle company, and academician of the Royal Canadian Academy of Sciences, visited our school and gave a wonderful "NanQiang Academic Lecture" at the highest level of Xiamen University to all the teachers and students. A Personal Story about 30 Years of Development of Ni-rich Electrode Materials for Li-ion Batteries. The lecture was hosted by Professor Yang Yong,Academician Sun Shigang awarded the "Nanqiang Academic Lecture" honorary plaque to Academician Dahn.
This is Professor Dahn's first lecture in China. Professor Dahn has been engaged in the research of various components of lithium-ion batteries for a long time. With high energy density, high safety and low cost as the research objectives, he has made many contributions to the development of lithium battery industry. In nearly two hours' presentation, he introduced the whole development process of high nickel cathode materials step by step, using his own experience as the main line. Compared with lithium cobaltate, lithium nickelate is at the lower end of the market competition due to its safety problemsHowever, in the past 30 years, Professor Dahn has recognized the cost advantage of lithium nickelate and has continuously improved it through doping methods such as aluminum and magnesium. Finally, the high nickel material has re-entered the field of view and become a hot spot in the development of lithium electricity. Professor Dahn's simple and profound lectures brought a wonderful academic feast for the teachers and students.
In addition, Professor Jeffrey Dahn was invited to visit our research group in the morning and communicate with all the faculty members and current students. Under the guidance of Professor Yang Yong, Professor Dahn first visited the solid state NMR laboratory of our research group. During this period, Xiang Yuxuan introduced his recent research work on MRI technology, and Professor Dahn praised his work and gave a number of substantive suggestions. After visiting the testing room and the material synthesis lab, all the teachers and students and Professor Dahn arrived at the conference room for in-depth communication. Zheng Bizhu first introduced her work on solid electrolyte interface. Professor Dahn showed a strong interest in her work and frequently discussed with her. Then Professor Dahn shared many of his own stories, which made us deeply feel the love and persistence of the lithium predecessors to the industry. When they arrived at the question and answer section, the students were all scrambling to put forward their own questions. Professor Dahn offered his own understanding of each of your questions, regardless of their depth. I believe that after this, the students in this research group can be more clear about their development goals and work harder.

Professor Jeff Dahn is at present the lithium ion battery materials on international Research one of the most famous scholar, he has won the Canadian supreme scientific and Engineering Gerhard Herzberg Gold Medal in Science and Engineering Gold Medal (2017), he is currently a Canadian member of the Royal Academy of Science, natural Science foundation of Canada awarded the distinguished professor (Canada Research Chair), at the same time, Canada's physical society awarded outstanding teacher award (2009). He is currently the Chief Scientist of Tesla, an internationally famous electric vehicle company. He has 670 published papers (H=124) and 65 patents granted and registered.
